This weekend, I'll be posting the fifth of five posts introducing my rededicated blog, all about how business will be done in this exciting new century.
First, though, I wanted to give my new readers a chance to catch up. Here are the first four posts in the series, in order of publication:

Ted, I've got some comments on The Art of Business, even though it's not posted yet. I just want to respectfully counter some of your "business needs to be more art, less science" themed tweets of late. For clarity and context, I'll quote some of your tweets and retweets over the past couple of days here:

"RT @ISLfinancial: Biz is a mixture of science & art. Which ethic dominates your co? (We would add intuition gained by experience!/For sure!" July 7
"RT @Note_to_CMO: @ThomasLanen Seriously - how many mkters dwell 100% in the science for fear of the art of trying something new?/Vast majrty" July 7
"RT @Note_to_CMO: Mkting without art is nothing but a$$ covering. Mkting without science is self-indulgence./Brilliant!" July 7
"I love science - LOVE it! - but it's unfortunate when biz leaders subordinate art to science." July 7
"RT @Note_to_CMO: Biz is a mix of science & art. [I avoid absolutes. I need both, but lean twds art.]/Same here!" July 7

I’m going to take a guess that “The Art of Business” article will have a central theme that business too often subordinates art to science.
I agree that it is unfortunate when biz leaders subordinate art to science. What I think is the fundamental error, before subordination of either side, is to view them as entities independent of the other.
I’m in the business of helping companies improve their customer relationships through science (I usually call it math, but math is a science). As you might imagine, this will invariably involve marketing. We often see—especially at large B to C companies (retail and consumer goods) that there are old guard marketing folks who have the power in the organization and don’t trust the math and science—so they reject it, and go strictly on intuition. Why not take that art and do a little a/b testing to figure out which campaign is likely to achieve better results? But that is a new level of accountability that can be threatening to them. So I guess you could say that I’ve seen plenty of exact opposite behavior to "RT @Note_to_CMO: @ThomasLanen Seriously - how many mkters dwell 100% in the science for fear of the art of trying something new?/Vast majrty"
My point: Think of Michelangelo’s David or the Pantheon or the Golden Gate bridge. Think of all the science that went into those artistic masterpieces. When you say that business done right is a masterpiece, not a formula, I must quibble that business done right is a formula that is a masterpiece, see E=MC^2 . Any decent scientist would tell you that creativity, innovation, intuition, and other right-brained behavior (yes, art) are essential ingredients to good science. Science is frequently merely a testing ground for the art.
I enjoy your writing and I feel a little like I’m shadow boxing as I debate with a post that doesn’t yet exist, but you said you wanted comments to help you develop this line of thought. I hope these help.

3) Highlight the first link.
4) While it's highlighted, copy it (Ctrl+C).

6) Click in the box that says "URL" and hit "Ctrl+V"
7) Click "OK"
8) Rinse... repeat.
Tip: If you want to use anchor text by linking to a specific word or phrase, all you need to do is highlight the word or phrase you want to be linked, click on the "Chain" box and then paste the URL as explained above.
Hope that helps... it's been a while since I used blogger so it may take a little guess-and-check before it's right...
Bags, you sir are an amazing human being. Watch your mailbox for that dollar. And thank you.
