Interesting factoid: Each day after testing new job applicants, each recruiter for the US Census Bureau, nationwide, sends a package of that day’s successful applicant’s files to Washington via Federal Express.
Not the US Postal Service. FedEx.
I can’t even wrap my head around the size of that annual bill. And this is just one bureau in our federal government.
How should we look at this?
Should we be appalled, that our government is scorning another branch of itself and giving our tax dollars to a for-profit company – and meanwhile, the USPS is struggling to make ends meet?
Should we be encouraged, that a for-profit enterprise can clearly do it so much better than our non-profit government? Really, this factoid is a ringing endorsement of Capitalism and the Free Market system we Americans are all raised to love.
I’ll leave the question to you. Consider it a Rorschach Test – what we take from this information is what we bring to it.
